Regular Season Round 6: HNMKY - Lahti 65-64

A very close game took place in Helsinki between HNMKY and Lahti. Fifth ranked HNMKY (3-3) got a very close home victory over 10th ranked Lahti (1-6). HNMKY managed to escape with a 1-point win 65-64 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 22-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. HNMKY dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Lahti's 28. HNMKY forced 25 Lahti turnovers. Guard Markus Kataja (188-0) scored 16 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Iiro Tuomi (198-2) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was center Luukas Vaara (204-1) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Saku Levola (187-0) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. HNMKY have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 3-3 record, which they share with Honka. Lahti at the other side stay at the bottom place with six games lost. HNMKY will meet league's second-placed Pyrinto in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lahti will play against the league's leader Rocks (#1) and hope to win that game.
