Regular Season Round 6: Honka - HoNsU 85-77

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 7th ranked HoNsU's (2-5) road loss to sixth ranked Honka (3-3) 77-85 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-19. But HoNsU won second period 17-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Honka won last quarter 29-23. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to HoNsU's 34. They outrebounded HoNsU 54-33 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Alvar Peltoniemi (196-1) had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Lauri Andersson (199-0) chipped in 8 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Honka's coach Aapo Heinonen used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was guard Tiitus Kuukkanen (193-0) with 29 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Ville Virtaharju (201-0) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Honka moved-up to fifth place, which they share with HNMKY. HoNsU lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost. They share it with Go Time and Sykki. Honka will meet higher ranked KTP (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. HoNsU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Helsinki Sykki.
