Regular Season Round 16: Toyama Grouses - Tochigi Brex 70-96

Not a big story in a game when 3rd ranked Toyama Grouses (9-7) were outscored at home by first ranked Tochigi Brex (14-2) 96-70 on Saturday. Tochigi Brex dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Toyama Grouses' 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Quite impressive performance for American forward Jeffrey Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Tochigi Brex players scored in double figures. American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) replied with 25 points and 8 rebounds and guard Daichi Kuzuhara (187-96) added 13 points in the effort for Toyama Grouses. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tochigi Brex have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-2 record. Loser Toyama Grouses keep the third place with seven games lost. Tochigi Brex will have a break next round. Toyama Grouses will play again at home against the league's leader Tochigi Brex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
