Regular Season Round 17: Akita NH - Niigata Albirex 75-67

Leading Niigata Albirex (12-5) recorded its fifth loss on the court of fifth ranked Akita Happinets. Visitors were defeated by Akita Happinets 75-67. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Niigata Albirex. American power forward Justin Keenan (202-88, college: Ferris St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Takuya Nakayama (182-94) accounted for 6 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Akita Happinets' coach Josep Claros allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Niigata Albirex in the defeat. Newly promoted Akita Happinets maintains fifth place with 5-12 record. Niigata Albirex at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. They share it with Nagoya DD and Ryukyu GK. Akita Happinets will play against higher ranked Aishin Sea Horses (#4) in Kariya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Niigata Albirex will play on the road against Fukuoka Rizing and hopes to get back on the winning track.
