Regular Season Round 9: Guadalajara - Rivas 73-81

There was an upset when 3rd placed CB Guadalajara (7-2) lost at home to tenth ranked Rivas (4-5) 81-73 on Sunday. It was a good game for American center Julien Sargent (211-91, college: Mobile, AL) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Eduardo Martinez (193-96) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Rivas' coach Juanjo Simon used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Argentinian forward Alfio Niello (200-91) answered with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Alvaro Frutos (188-87) added 18 points in the effort for CB Guadalajara. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rivas moved-up to seventh place in Group B, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser CB Guadalajara keeps the third position with two games lost. Rivas will face Zentro Basket (#7) in Madrid in the next round. CB Guadalajara will play on the road against Casvi (#11) in Villaviciosa and hope to win that game.
