Regular Season Round 9: Baskonia - Zornotza 69-76

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Baskonia B (3-6) lost at home to eighth ranked Zornotza (5-5) 76-69 on Sunday. It was a good game for Canadian-Haitian forward Kevin Bercy (201-94, college: St.Francis X.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Power forward Alejandro Mazaira (202-97) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Slovenian power forward Jurij Macura (211-99, agency: BeoBasket) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Latvian Arturs Kurucs (192-0) added 15 points in the effort for Baskonia B. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Baskonia B's coach Miguel Angel Hoyo let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Zornotza moved-up to seventh place in Silver. Loser Baskonia B keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Zornotza will face higher ranked Marin (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Baskonia B will play against Gijon (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
