The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Santos' (5-9) home victory over 7th ranked Angeles (3-11) in San Luis Potosi 89-79 on Sunday. Santos looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import point guard Jaron Martin (178-94, college: Cal-Irvine) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Gaines is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Puerto Rican forward Carlos Lopez-Sosa (208-90, college: UNLV) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and Puerto Rican point guard Filiberto Rivera (189-82, college: UTEP) added 17 points and 9 assists in the effort for Angeles. Five Santos and four Angeles players scored in double figures. Santos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Abejas. Angeles lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the seventh position with 11 games lost. Santos will face again Angeles (#7) in Puebla in the next round.
