There was no surprise in Nagoya where 9th ranked Hitachi Cougars (4-6) were crushed by second ranked Mitsubishi K. (8-2) 90-67 on Sunday. Mitsubishi K. dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 26. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 36-24 including 18 on the offensive glass. Mitsubishi K. shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. The former international swingman Aya Watanabe (169-92) fired 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international center Asako Oh (189-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Four Mitsubishi K. players scored in double figures. International power forward Chika Suzuki (183-93) produced 15 points and 6 rebounds and guard Runo Nishizawa (167-94) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mitsubishi K. have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader JX-Eneos S. Hitachi Cougars lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. Mitsubishi K. will face Haneda Vickies (#8) in Tokyo in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Cougars will play at home against Chanson V-M and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
