Regular Season Round 11: Atenas - Sayago 90-82

Bottom-ranked Sayago (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 90-82 loss to ninth ranked Atenas (6-5) in Montevideo. Strangely Sayago outrebounded Atenas 42-29 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Gabriel Belardo (188-89, college: FIU) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Alex Lopez (185-93) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. Belardo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Naturalized Italian point guard Emiliano Giano (180-89) came up with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) added 16 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Sayago in the defeat. Four Atenas and five Sayago players scored in double figures. Atenas moved-up to eighth place. Sayago at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with 11 games lost.
