Regular Season Round 11: Kouvot - Vilpas 81-90

Korisliiga top team - Vilpas (11-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Kouvot (4-6) in Kouvola 90-81. Kouvot was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was forward Antonio Ballard (194-88, college: Miami, OH) who scored 23 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Forward Jamie Skeen (203-88, college: VCU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Ballard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard EC Matthews (196-95, college: Rhode Island) produced 23 points and guard Jeremy Morgan (196-95, college: N.Iowa) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kouvot's coach Jyri Lehtonen rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vilpas have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-1 record. Kouvot at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Vilpas' next round opponent will be Ura Basket (#6) in Kaarina which should be theoretically an easy game. Kouvot will play on the road against Helsinki Seagulls and hope to win that game.
