Regular Season Round 8: Haukar - Keflavik 81-64

There was a surprise result when seventh ranked Haukar (4-4) defeated higher ranked Keflavik (6-2) in Hafnarfjordur 81-64 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-64. Haukar dominated on the defensive end, holding Keflavik to just 7 points in third and fourth quarters. Haukar had a 35-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Marques Oliver (201-91, college: Delaware St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. International forward Hjalmar Stefansson (196-96) contributed with 21 points and 4 steals for the winners. Oliver is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Haukar players scored in double figures. American forward Michael Craion (195-89, college: ORU, agency: Inception Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international guard Hordur Vilhjalmsson (194-88) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Keflavik. Keflavik's coach Sverrir Sverrisson rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Haukar moved-up to fifth place, which they share with IR and Stjarnan. Keflavik at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. Haukar will face Grindavik (#9) on the road in the next round. Keflavik will play against Thor Thorl (#8) and hope to win that game.
