Regular Season Round 8: Valur - Breidablik 114-102

Everything could happen in Reykjavik at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Valur and 11th ranked Breidablik had identical 1-6 record. This time Valur used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Kopavogur 114-102 on Friday night. The game was mostly controlled by Valur. Breidablik was better in fourth quarter 33-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Breidablik 41-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Valur shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 assists. Bulgarian forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) contributed with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Christian Covile (193-93, college: Adrian) replied with 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and swingman Snorri Vignisson (193-97) added 21 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Breidablik. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valur (2-6) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Skallagrimur. Breidablik lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with seven games lost. Valur will face Skallagrimur (#10) in Borganes in the next round. Breidablik will play at home against the league's leader Tindastoll and will have a slim chance for a victory.
