Regular Season Round 18: Toyota Alvark - Kyoto Hannar. 85-87

A very close game took place in Tokyo between Kyoto Hannar. and Toyota Alvark. Third ranked Kyoto Hannar. (11-8) got a very close victory on the road over one of their biggest challengers Toyota Alvark (12-7). Kyoto Hannar. managed to escape with a 2-point win 87-85 in the fight for the second place. Kyoto Hannar. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kyoto Hannar. made 7 blocks. American center David Simon (208-82, college: PFW) notched a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead the effort and Zimbabwean-American Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) supported him with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 14 assists. Even a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds by American center Alex Kirk (211-91, college: N.Mexico, agency: Pensack Sports) did not help to save the game for Toyota Alvark. Guard Seiya Ando (184-92) added 24 points. Four Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Kyoto Hannar. moved-up to second place, which they share with Kawasaki BT and Toyama Grouses. Defending champion Toyota Alvark keeps the third position with seven games lost. Kyoto Hannar. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toyota Alvark will play again against Kyoto Hannar. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
