Regular Season Round 12: Seagulls - Kouvot 74-88

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Helsinki Seagulls (3-6) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Kouvot (5-6) 88-74. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Kouvot's pressure prevailed and they won that period 21-14 extending their advantage to 14 points. Kouvot outrebounded Helsinki Seagulls 38-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by American Brian Asbury (201-86, college: Miami, FL) who scored that evening 22 points and 9 rebounds and the former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-96) supported him with 14 points and 8 assists. Even 19 points by American-Puerto Rican forward Christopher Ortiz (203-93, college: Kent St., agency: Inception Sports) did not help to save the game for Helsinki Seagulls. American guard Tyler Thornton (185-92, college: Duke) added 14 points and 4 assists. Five Helsinki Seagulls players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kouvot moved-up to fifth place, which they share with KTP Basket. Helsinki Seagulls at the other side keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Kouvot will play against higher ranked Kauhajoki (#3) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Helsinki Seagulls will play against BC Nokia (#4) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
