Regular Season Round 9: Castello - FC Barcelona II 85-81

There was a small surprise in Castellon where fourteenth ranked Castello (3-6) won against 12th ranked Barca II (3-6) 85-81. Castello players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Point guard Joan Faner (176-90) nailed 18 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side and American center Nick Washburn (208-91, college: Hillsdale, agency: Duran International) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds. Washburn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Senegalese center Atoumane Diagne (215-98) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Sergi Martinez (203-99) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Barca II in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Barca II's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Castello moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with FC Barcelona II and Araberri. Castello will play against higher ranked Oviedo CB (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barca II will play against Lleida Basquet (#3) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
