Regular Season Round 18: Fukuoka Rizing - Niigata Albirex 71-68

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Niigata Albirex (13-6) on the court of fifth ranked Fukuoka Rizing on Friday night. Visitors were edged by Fukuoka Rizing 71-68. Fukuoka Rizing outrebounded Niigata Albirex 47-36 including 38 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Masashi Joho (183-82) who led his team to a victory with 25 points and 8 rebounds. British forward Benjamin Lawson (216-95, college: W.Kentucky) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Fukuoka Rizing's coach Ryuji Kawai used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 21 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Newly promoted Fukuoka Rizing maintains fifth position with 4-15 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Niigata Albirex at the other side still keeps top place with six games lost. They share the position with Nagoya DD. Fukuoka Rizing is again looking forward to face league's leader Niigata Albirex at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Niigata Albirex will have a break next round.
