Regular Season Round 10: Gran Canaria - Estudiantes 85-79

Date: November 24, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Las Palmas where 16th ranked Movil Estudiantes (2-7) was defeated by seventeenth ranked Gran Canaria (3-7) 85-79 on Saturday. Movil Estudiantes trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 26-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-85 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Movil Estudiantes 40-26 including 25 on the defensive glass. Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) scored 18 points to lead the charge for the winners and Dominican Eulis Baez (201-82, college: W.Illinois) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. At the losing side international guard Dario Brizuela (196-94) responded with 20 points and Puerto Rican guard Gian Clavell (193-93, college: Colorado St.) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Obradoiro. Movil Estudiantes lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Breogan. Gran Canaria will meet league's second-placed Real Madrid on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Movil Estudiantes will play against Burgos (#11) and hope to secure a win.
