Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Unicaja Malaga (8-2) won against at home 12th ranked UCAM Murcia (3-6) 89-82 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-19. But UCAM Murcia won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unicaja Malaga made 32-of-34 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game, while UCAM Murcia only scored three points from the stripe. Finnish Sasu Salin (191-91) scored 18 points to lead the charge for the winners and Georgian center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Surinamese-Dutch guard Charlon Kloof (189-90, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American point guard Brad Oleson (191-83, college: Alaska-Fairb., agency: Duran International) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Five UCAM Murcia players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Real Madrid and Baskonia. Loser UCAM Murcia dropped to the thirteenth position with six games lost. Unicaja Malaga will meet Joventut (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. UCAM Murcia will play against Gipuzkoa in San Sebastian and hope to secure a win.
