Regular Season Round 9: Palermo - San Salvatore 90-51

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked San Salvatore (5-3) was outplayed on the road by seventh ranked Palermo (6-3) 90-51 on Saturday. Palermo made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 San Salvatore turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Dutch-Australian center Jacinta Vandenberg (196-93, college: Oregon) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Power forward Liliana Miccio (181-89) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Five Palermo players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Cinzia Arioli (178-84, agency: LBM Management) who recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Giorgia Manfrc (183-92) added 15 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Palermo moved-up to fifth place in A2. Loser San Salvatore dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Palermo will face league's second-placed Spezzina in La Spezia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Salvatore will play at home against Bologna (#4) and hope to win that game.
