Date: November 24, 2018
The game between closely ranked teams ended with their biggest opponent Benahavis' (6-2) road loss to top-ranked Algeciras (8-0) 67-106 on Saturday. Algeciras dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Benahavis' 36. Algeciras forced 19 Benahavis turnovers. American forward Andrew Kelly (201-91, college: Alaska-Fairb.) scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds (on 17-of-22 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import swingman Christian Manoli (196-92, college: Carnegie Mellon) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Algeciras players scored in double figures. At the losing side Mali-American forward Mamadou Diakite (196-93, college: Immaculata) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Jermaine Sanders (196-92, college: Cincinnati) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Algeciras have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Newly promoted Algeciras maintains first position in Group D-B with 8-0 record. Loser Benahavis keeps the second place with two games lost. Algeciras will face Real Betis II (#9) in Sevilla in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Benahavis will play at home against Utrera (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
