Regular Season Round 19: Fukuoka Rizing - Niigata Albirex 69-73

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Fukuoka Rizing (4-15) was defeated at home by first ranked Niigata Albirex (13-6) 73-69 on Saturday. Strangely Fukuoka Rizing outrebounded Niigata Albirex 42-25 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) fired a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists. American Eric Jacobsen (208-94, college: Arizona St.) produced 26 points and 7 rebounds and British forward Benjamin Lawson (216-95, college: W.Kentucky) added 14 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Fukuoka Rizing players scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex maintains first place with 13-6 record, which they share with Nagoya DD. Newly promoted Fukuoka Rizing keeps the fifth position with 15 games lost. Niigata Albirex will face Toyota Alvark (#3) in Tokyo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Fukuoka Rizing will play on the road against Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
