Regular Season Round 4: Athinaikos - Sporting 81-73

Athinaikos' fans can celebrate the first win of their team after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Sporting (0-4) 81-73 on Sunday. Athinaikos made 32-of-36 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American power forward Stephanie Kostowicz (188-95, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee, agency: Interperformances) who scored that evening 22 points and 9 rebounds (made all of her ten free throws !!!) and power forward Zafeira Giampani (184-92) supported her with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Four Athinaikos players scored in double figures. Even 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Ariana Moorer (172-91, college: Virginia) did not help to save the game for Sporting. Guard Katerina Marini (178-99) added 17 points for lost side. Athinaikos (1-3) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Kalyvion. It was Sporting's fourth loss in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Iraklis. Athinaikos will meet higher ranked Esperides (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sporting will play against Niki Lefkadas (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
