Regular Season Round 9: Ura Basket II - PeU-Basket 82-89

There was no surprise in Kaarina where 8th ranked Ura Basket II (3-5) was defeated by fifth ranked PeU-Basket (6-2) 89-82 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 53-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. PeU-Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Ura Basket II's 36. PeU-Basket forced 19 Ura Basket II turnovers. Strangely Ura Basket II outrebounded PeU-Basket 47-33 including a 39-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Reggie Dillard (193-93, college: Presbyterian) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Teemu Jarhio (187-98) chipped in 15 points. The best for the losing side was guard Trey Niemi (185-98) with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Joona Airenne (200-98) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. PeU-Basket moved-up to fourth place in Division. Newly promoted Ura Basket II keeps the eighth position with five games lost. PeU-Basket will face league's leader Raholan Pyrkiva in Tampere in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ura Basket II will play on the road against MuKi (#5) in Helsinki and hope to win that game.
