No shocking result in a game in Lugo where leader Gernika (7-0) defeated 9th ranked Maquinaria Ensino (2-5) 77-65 on Sunday. Gernika looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Blake Dietrick (178-93, college: Princeton, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory scoring 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Her fellow American import Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: ProDep Management) helped adding 14 points. Roundtree is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Senegalese power forward Astou Traore (182-81, agency: ProDep Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and Nigerian-American forward Atonye Nyingifa (180-90, college: UCLA) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Gernika. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Avenida. Newly promoted Maquinaria Ensino keeps the ninth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Gernika will meet at home bottom-ranked Universitario de Ferrol (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Maquinaria Ensino will play against Argon Uni Girona (#3) and hope to secure a win.
