Regular Season Round 7: Ragusa - Empoli 82-64

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Empoli (1-6) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Ragusa (4-3) 82-64 on Sunday. Ragusa dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Empoli's 30. Ragusa forced 20 Empoli turnovers. Strangely Empoli outrebounded Ragusa 42-29 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Dearica Hamby (190-93, college: Wake Forest, agency: LBM Management) fired 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners. Her fellow American import forward Jessica Kuster (188-92, college: Rice) chipped in 21 points. American power forward Erin Mathias (193-95, college: Duke) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and Lithuanian forward Gabriele Narviciute (190-90) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ragusa moved-up to fifth place, which they share with San Martino. Newly promoted Empoli dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. They share it with Battipaglia and Torino. Ragusa will meet at home Vigarano (#9) in the next round. Empoli will play against Torino and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
