Regular Season Round 8: Thor AK - Fjolnir 87-81

An interesting game for Thor AK (7-1) which hosted in Akureyri second-ranked Fjolnir (5-3). First ranked Thor AK managed to get a 6-point victory 87-81. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Fjolnir won third quarter 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Thor AK won last quarter 24-19. They made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Fjolnir only scored ten points from the stripe. 26 personal fouls committed by Fjolnir helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Julius Agustsson (190-1) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Larry Thomas (185-93, college: Birm.Southern) contributed with 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Thomas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Anton Grady (203-92, college: Wichita St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds and Hungarian-Serbian Srdjan Stojanovic (197-91) added 26 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Fjolnir. Fjolnir's coach Falur Hardarson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Thor AK have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-1 record. Fjolnir at the other side dropped to the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Hamar. Thor AK are looking forward to face FSU (#6) in Selfoss in the next round where they are favorite. Fjolnir will play against the league's second-placed Vestri and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
