There was no surprise when 11th ranked Gijon (3-7) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Marin (5-5) 82-68 on Saturday. Marin outrebounded Gijon 46-33 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was British-Irish forward Taiwo Badmus (203-93, college: Virginia-Wise) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds. American guard Jordan Gregory (188-92, college: Montana) chipped in 20 points. Four Marin players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Saul Blanco (196-85) produced 15 points and 6 rebounds and Canadian forward Shane Osayande (198-93, college: Saskatchewan, agency: Interperformances) added 8 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Newly promoted Marin maintains seventh place in Silver with 5-5 record. Gijon at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with seven games lost. Marin will face higher ranked Cocinas.com (#4) in Logrono in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gijon will play on the road against Fontedoso Carrefour (#8) in Avila and hope to win that game.
