There was an upset in Salamanca where higher ranked Estela (6-4) was edged by twelfth ranked Tormes (3-7) 79-77 on Saturday. Estela was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Victor Moreno (195-98) who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Naturalized Puerto Rican forward Juan-Ramon Rivas (203-94, college: N.Georgia, agency: Duran International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Argentinian guard Juan Sutina (192-90, agency: Interperformances) produced 23 points and American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Estela players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Tormes maintains twelfth place in Silver with 3-7 record. Estela at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Tormes will face higher ranked Zornotza (#6) in Amorebieta-Echano in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Estela will play on the road against Navarra and will have a slim chance for a victory.
