Regular Season Round 8: Ethnikos - Apollon Patras 79-84

Apollon Patras has finally registered their first victory this season after six consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Pireus, where they defeated Ethnikos (0-7) 84-79 on Saturday. Apollon Patras made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Evangelos Bebis (198-95, college: Iona) who scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Fotios Zoumpos (194-93) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Serbian forward Nikola Stanojevic (203-90) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Nikos Michalos (192-77) added 9 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Apollon Patras (1-6) left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place, which they share with Kavala. It was Ethnikos' seventh loss in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Apollon Patras will meet at home higher ranked Psychiko (#7) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Ethnikos will play against Kastoria (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
