Regular Season Round 11: Leon - Ponferrada CDP 91-74

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Leon and second-ranked Ponferrada CDP had identical 6-1 record. This time Leon used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Ponferrada 91-74 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the top position in Group A-B. Leon dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Ponferrada CDP's 38. They outrebounded Ponferrada CDP 44-26 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Leon looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-94, college: Lander) who scored 30 points (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field). Guard Mateo Sanchez (188-99) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Gabriel is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Canadian swingman Taevaunn Prince (191-91, college: Missouri So.) produced 21 points and 6 rebounds and American Sean Mcdonell (203-95) added 19 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leon (7-1) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of Group A-B leader, which they share with Innova Chef. Loser Ponferrada CDP dropped to the third place with two games lost. Leon will face Chantada (#6) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Ponferrada CDP will play against the league's leader Innova Chef and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
