Everything went according to plan in Azkoitia where third ranked Rioja (7-2) outscored 9th ranked Mataro Parc (4-5) 90-67 on Sunday. They outrebounded Mataro Parc 55-25 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Rioja looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Russian power forward Mariya Davydova (190-93, college: FIU, agency: ProDep Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and DR Congolese-Belgian center Harriet Nahwezhi-Bende (186-94) chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds. Five Rioja players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Judy Jones (175-90, college: Grand Canyon) with 24 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Itziar Llobet (181-93, college: Kent St.) scored 17 points and 5 steals. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Rioja. They maintain third place in Group A with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader RC Celta. Mataro Parc lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Rioja will face league's leader Real Celta Vigo on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mataro Parc will play against Segle XXI (#11) and hope to win that game.
