Rather predictable result in Chengdu where thirteenth ranked Blue Whales (6-10) smashed 17th ranked Tianjin (1-15) 78-49 on Monday. Blue Whales dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Tianjin's 28 and made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. Blue Whales forced 21 Tianjin turnovers and outrebounded them 50-33 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 20 rebounds for the winners and forward Xuetong Zhao (185-94) chipped in 16 points. Forward Ziqi Han (180-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and center Zhuo Ma (190-1) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Blue Whales moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Zhejiang. Tianjin lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the seventeenth position with 15 games lost. Blue Whales will face higher ranked Hebei (#9) in Hengshui in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tianjin will play at home against Flame (#6) and hope to win that game.
