Regular Season Round 9: Cibona - Alkar 100-55

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Cibona as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Cibona smashed 7th ranked Alkar in Zagreb 100-55. The game without a history. Cibona led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alkar to just 6 points in first quarter. Cibona shot 27 for 36 from the free-throw line, while Alkar only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Alkar 46-33 including a 42-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cibona players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Alkar was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for power forward Filip Bundovic (205-94) who led his team to a victory with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Serbian guard Marko Ljubicic (195-87, agency: PEPI SPORT) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Cibona players scored in double figures. Center Hrvoje Vucic (210-91, college: Walsh) answered with 19 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Josh Brown (190-94, college: Temple) added 12 points and 4 steals in the effort for Alkar. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cibona have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Alkar at the other side keeps the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Osijek. Alkar will play next round against KK Vrijednosnice Osijek trying to get back on the winning streak. Cibona will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked H.Analitica. It will be extra interesting game as H.Analitica is their local rival from Zagreb.
