Regular Season Round 12: Malvin - Verdirrojo 99-83

Very expected game when 12th ranked Verdirrojo (2-8) lost to fifth ranked Malvin (7-3) in Montevideo 83-99 on Thursday. Malvin looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Verdirrojo's players. It was a good game for forward Emiliano Serres (205-97) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Marcos Cabot (178-89) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. Five Malvin players scored in double figures. American Joe Efese (198-90, college: Cent.Conn.St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!) and his fellow American import forward Drew Martin (203-94, college: Concordia, OR, agency: Court Side) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Verdirrojo. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Defensor. Newly promoted Verdirrojo keeps the twelfth position with eight games lost. Malvin will face bottom-ranked Sayago (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Verdirrojo's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Goes.
