Regular Season Round 19: Santos - Aaguacateros 106-86

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Aaguacateros (11-9) against sixth ranked Santos (8-12) on Thursday night. Visiting Aaguacateros were crushed by Santos in San Luis Potosi 106-86. Santos outrebounded Aaguacateros 48-31 including a 39-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Lyonell Gaines (198-93, college: Morehead St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward BJ West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) accounted for 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Gaines is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Santos players scored in double figures. The former international Noe Alonzo (200-83, college: Grand Canyon) came up with 24 points and 5 rebounds and American Dominic McGuire (206-85, college: Fresno St.) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Aaguacateros in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Santos maintains sixth place with 8-12 record. Aaguacateros at the other side keep the third position with nine games lost. Santos' next round opponent will be higher ranked Abejas (#5) in Guanajuato and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
