Regular Season Round 19: Abejas - Laguneros 103-84

There was a small surprise in Guanajuato where fifth ranked Abejas (9-11) outscored 5th ranked Laguneros (10-10) 103-84 on Thursday. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Laguneros' 40. Abejas forced 19 Laguneros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Laguneros' players. The game was dominated by American players. Power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) fired 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Michael Smith (193-95, college: Cal.Baptist) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Forward Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and guard Rayes Gallegos (188-90, college: Nebraska) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Abejas maintains fifth place with 9-11 record. Newly promoted Laguneros dropped to the fourth position with ten games lost. Abejas will face Santos (#6) in San Luis Potosi in the next round. Laguneros will play on the road against Libertadores in Queretaro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
