There was a minor upset when 6th ranked BC Nokia (6-8) was crushed at home by ninth ranked Helsinki Seagulls (4-6) 118-75 on Saturday. The game without a history. Helsinki Seagulls led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Helsinki Seagulls forced 21 BC Nokia turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. Helsinki Seagulls looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by BC Nokia's players. American point guard Juwan Staten (185-92, college: W.Virginia) fired 25 points and 5 assists for the winners. American-Puerto Rican forward Christopher Ortiz (203-93, college: Kent St., agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Sean OMara (208-95, college: Xavier, agency: Inception Sports) produced 12 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import point guard Johnathan Hudson (180-87, college: Texas A&M) added 9 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Five Helsinki Seagulls and four BC Nokia players scored in double figures. Helsinki Seagulls maintains ninth place with 4-6 record. BC Nokia lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Helsinki Seagulls will face higher ranked Ura Basket (#8) in Kaarina in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
