Regular Season Round 12: Avila - Gijon 77-73

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Gijon (3-9) lost to eighth ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (6-6) in Avila 73-77 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It was a good game for naturalized Brazilian center Sidnei De-Santana (216-83) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Venezuelan point guard Harold Cazorla (175-91) contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Javier Menendez-Garcia (201-97, college: N.Mexico Highlands) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and the former international swingman Saul Blanco (196-85) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Gijon. Four Fontedoso Carrefour and five Gijon players scored in double figures. Fontedoso Carrefour maintains eighth position in Silver with 6-6 record. Newly promoted Gijon keeps the twelfth place with nine games lost. Fontedoso Carrefour will face higher ranked Cocinas.com (#7) in Logrono in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gijon will play at home against Tormes (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
