Regular Season Round 18: Guangsha L. - Shanghai S. 102-99

The most exciting game of round 18 in the CBA took place in Hangzhou. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Sharks (11-6) to second ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (14-2) 102-99 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Sharks. Strangely Sharks outrebounded Zhejiang Guangsha Lions 55-43 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zhejiang Guangsha Lions made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American point guard Courtney Fortson (180-88, college: Arkansas) who scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. International center Jinqiu Hu (208-97) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89, college: BYU) who recorded 45 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and Zhang Max added 12 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Five Zhejiang Guangsha Lions and four Sharks players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions maintains second position with 14-2 record having four points less than leader Guangdong ST. Sharks at the other side keep the seventh place with six games lost. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions are looking forward to face Golden Stars (#8) in Jinan in the next round where they are favorite. Sharks will play at home against Golden Bulls and are hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
