Eleventh-ranked Maquinaria Ensino (2-7) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (7-2) in Lugo on Saturday. The visitors from San Sebastian managed to secure only three-point victory 69-66. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was American power forward Lyndra Weaver (185-87, college: Virginia, agency: ProDep Management) who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Senegalese power forward Oumoul Sarr (185-84) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian-American forward Atonye Nyingifa (180-90, college: UCLA) who recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds and American center Britany Miller (192-87, college: Florida St., agency: ProDep Management) added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) respectively. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gipuzkoa UPV. They maintain fourth place with 7-2 record. Maquinaria Ensino lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with seven games lost. They share it with Bembibre. Gipuzkoa UPV will meet at home bottom-ranked Universitario de Ferrol (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maquinaria Ensino will play against Mann Filter in Zaragoza and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
