Regular Season Round 19: Guangdong - Heilongjiang 87-58

WCBA top team - Vermilion Birds (19-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Dragons (8-11) in Dongguan 87-58. Vermilion Birds dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Dragons' 30. They outrebounded Dragons 46-28 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Vermilion Birds looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Dragons' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Vermilion Birds made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Wang Wei (180-86) who helped to win the game recording 18 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). International center Yueru Li (192-99) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Qijia Zou (178-98) answered with 11 points and center Liqing Cao (195-92) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Dragons. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vermilion Birds have an impressive series of sixteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 19-0 record. Dragons at the other side keep the eleventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Sichuan. Vermilion Birds are looking forward to face Liaoning Hengye (#15) in Anshan in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Dragons will play at home against the league's second-placed Bayi Kylin (#2) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
