Regular Season Round 11: Roma Athena - Orvieto 87-63

Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Orvieto (2-9) was rolled over on the road by twelfth ranked Roma Athena (4-7) 87-63 on Sunday. Roma Athena dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Orvieto's 32. They outrebounded Orvieto 39-26 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Giulia Bernardini (176-91) who led her team to a victory scoring 24 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Giulia Grimaldi (173-96) helped adding 21 points. Center Laura Meroni (177-93) responded with 19 points and point guard Chiara Cantone (170-0) scored 10 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Roma Athena maintains twelfth place in A2 with 4-7 record. Loser Orvieto keeps the fifteenth position with nine games lost. Roma Athena will face higher ranked Umbertide (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Orvieto will play against Cagliari CUS (#8) and hope to win that game.
