Regular Season Round 9: Stjarnan - KR 95-84

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Stjarnan's (5-4) home victory over 5th ranked KR (5-4) 95-84 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-84. Stjarnan had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. Stjarnan looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) chipped in 21 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Julian Boyd (201-90, college: LIU Brooklyn) who recorded 20 points and 8 rebounds and international forward Kristofer Acox (200-93, college: Furman) added 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Five KR players scored in double figures. KR's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Stjarnan. They maintain fourth place with 5-4 record, which they share with defeated KR. KR lost their fourth game in a row. Stjarnan will meet Grindavik (#7) on the road in the next round. KR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik IR.
