Regular Season Round 12: Le Portel - ASVEL 69-72

Fifteenth-ranked Le Portel (4-8) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (10-2) on Sunday. The visitors from Villeurbanne managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It was a great shooting night for ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for Croatian center Miro Bilan (213-89, agency: BeoBasket) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Lithuanian point guard Mantas Kalnietis (196-86, agency: Players Group) contributed with 14 points and 6 assists for the winners. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's coach Zvezdan Mitrovic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Benoit Mangin (188-88) replied with 14 points and 8 assists and American swingman Anthony Hilliard (195-86, college: Elizabeth City) added 15 points in the effort for Le Portel. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-2 record. Le Portel lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Fos-Provence. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket are looking forward to face Chalons-Reims (#12) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Le Portel will play against Levallois and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
