Regular Season Round 9: Skallagrimur - Valur 96-105

Everything could happen in Borganes at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Valur and 10th ranked Skallagrimur had identical 2-6 record. But Skallagrimur was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Reykjavik 105-96 on Monday night. The game without a history. Valur led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) who scored 48 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 7 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Bulgarian forward Aleks Simeonov (200-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Four Valur players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Aundre Jackson (196-95, college: Loyola, IL) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and Croatian forward Domagoj Samac (206-93, college: Ft.Hays State) added 24 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valur (3-6) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Thor Thorl. Skallagrimur lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the eleventh position with seven games lost. Valur will meet at home higher ranked Keflavik (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Skallagrimur will play against the league's leader Tindastoll (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
