Regular Season Round 22: Toyama Grouses - Yokohama BC 106-72

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Yokohama BC (5-17) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Toyama Grouses (11-11) 106-72 on Wednesday. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Yokohama BC's 52. Toyama Grouses had a 27-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) fired 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The other American import center Joshua Smith (208-92, college: Georgetown) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. American power forward Alex Stepheson (208-87, college: USC) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds and the former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) added 25 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyama Grouses maintains fourth position with 11-11 record. Yokohama BC lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with 17 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face league's second-placed Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Yokohama BC will play at home against Osaka Evessa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
