Regular Season Round 8: Victoria - Olimpia 62-98

Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Grodno: Olimpia (#2) and Victoria (#4). Victoria was smashed at home by 36 points 62-98 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Victoria. The game without a history. Olimpia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Olimpia forced 26 Victoria turnovers and outrebounded them 44-25 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Victoria's players. Victoria was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Nadzeya Nadzezhka (180-87) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. International swingman Arina Masko (175-99) contributed with 23 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Olimpia players scored in double figures. Guard Yana Iahnovets (169-1) replied with 14 points and forward Yana Goliakova (182-1) added 14 points in the effort for Victoria. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olimpia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-1 record having just one point less than leader Tsmoki-Minsk. Victoria at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. Olimpia will play against Gomel-Sozh (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Victoria will play against Gorizont in Minsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
