Regular Season Round 9: Nantes - Vichy Clermont 84-87

The biggest surprise of round 9 was guest JA Vichy's (6-3) road victory over 5th ranked Nantes (5-4) 87-84 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Nantes. JA Vichy made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game, while Nantes only scored eight points from the stripe. JA Vichy forced 21 Nantes turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Nantes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Andell Cumberbatch (198-93, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Quinton Hooker (183-95, college: N.Dakota) chipped in 14 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American-British center Laurence Ekperigin (200-88, college: LeMoyne) who recorded 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Ivorian swingman Vafessa Fofana (198-92) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Five JA Vichy and four Nantes players scored in double figures. Nantes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. JA Vichy moved-up to third place, which they share with Nancy and Saint-Chamond. Nantes at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. JA Vichy is looking forward to face Aix-Maurienne (#9) in Aix-les-Bains in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Nantes will play on the road against Gries/Oberhoffen in Bischwiller and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
