Regular Season Round 13: L'Horta Godella - Benicarlo 65-73

There was no surprise when 8th ranked L'Horta Godella (1-10) lost to third ranked Benicarlo (8-4) in Valencia 65-73 on Saturday. Benicarlo dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to L'Horta Godella's 26. They outrebounded L'Horta Godella 43-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for guard Sandy Diaz (185-93) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Romeo Smith (201-95, college: Missouri Valley) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Daniel Zafon (179-95) answered with 16 points and forward Alberto Cubells (190-87) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for L'Horta Godella. Four L'Horta Godella players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Benicarlo. Newly promoted Benicarlo maintains third place in Group E-A with 8-4 record having just one point less than leader Lliria. L'Horta Godella lost their tenth game in a row. L'Horta Godella at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Benicarlo will face Paterna (#5) at home in the next round. L'Horta Godella will play against the league's leader Lliria and hope to win that game.
