Regular Season Round 12: HyPo - Catz 70-77

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked HyPo (9-3) in Hyvinkaa on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Catz Lappeenranta (6-6) 77-70. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 21-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Catz Lappeenranta made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Strangely HyPo outrebounded Catz Lappeenranta 44-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American guard Sydney Wallace (175-93, college: Georgia Tech) who led her team to a victory with 33 points (!!!) and 5 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The other American import forward Aleighsa Welch (183-93, college: S.Carolina, agency: Two Points) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Catz Lappeenranta players scored in double figures. American guard Randi Brown (170-96, college: New Orleans) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for HyPo. Catz Lappeenranta maintains fifth position with 6-6 record. HyPo at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. They share the position with Espoo Team. Catz Lappeenranta will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. HyPo will play on the road against Torpan Pojat in Helsinki and is hoping to win this game.
